Attack on Mohd Kaif's house

These are dangerous times for cricketers in India. In saner times, it used to go like this, "So and so's horrible run of form has endangered his place in the team." But times have changed. Nowadays it goes like this, "So and so's horrible run of form has endangered his property and (life)." Mohd Kaif's house was attacked after the India team's continued woeful form in South Africa.
There will be the usual cries of 'one day we treat our heroes as demigods, the other day we send them crashing to the ground'. This incident again reminds us of the dangerously increasing prevalence that mob culture is gaining in India. This also gives rise to a basic question. How justified is this performance-evaluation-in-public (if it can be called that)? Well to carry the inscrutable logic forward, if tomorrow my boss is unhappy with my performance, he can very well make his way to my house and set it on fire. But wait, isn't there a more civilised way of dealing with my non-performance? Lecture me or demote me or sack me, if the need arises. Hell this is normal practice everywhere. Why can't the same rule apply to our cricketers. Why can't we simply call for their demotion to domestic cricket if they are not performing? But well these are times of herd mentality . . .
